As the Senate continues its work on a surface transportation reauthorization bill and negotiates the details of a bipartisan infrastructure package, we discourage members of the Democratic Conference from pursuing any increase in minimum liability insurance requirements for motor carriers. Such an increase is wholly unnecessary, would do nothing to improve highway safety, needlessly jeopardize countless blue collar jobs, destroy many small and family-owned businesses, and threaten necessary bipartisan support for any legislation that includes it.

(WASHINGTON)— A major March 2 court decision has given every state in the country a clear understanding of how far federal jurisdiction extends over the nation’s water bodies, eliminating potentially costly delays in transportation system upgrades, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) and National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA). 

As the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure develops the next surface transportation reauthorization bill, our organizations strongly discourage you from including any increase in the existing minimum liability coverage for motor carriers.
