NSSGA recognizes company, facility and individual representatives from our membership across a host of award programs and categories.  Each year, our members achieve accomplishments through their hard work across, safety, environment, community relations, leadership and political excellence.  For questions regarding any of the award categories, please see the respective award page.

NSSGA’s AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE

The Awards of Excellence program recognizes NSSGA member company operations’ achievements in the areas of Community Relations, Environmental and Safety Excellence.

 

Community Relations

COMMUNITY RELATIONS EXCELLENCE AWARDSCommunity Relations Excellence Awards recognize producers whose community involvement and support activities enhance the public’s perception of the aggregates industry and the individual producer’s operation.

Environmental Excellence

ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARDSThe Environmental Excellence Award provides national recognition for operations who actively demonstrate a commitment to the exemplary use of environmental controls and systems. The Environmental Leadership award recognizes an individual for outstanding commitment to environmental practices.

Safety Award

SAFETY EXCELLENCE AWARDSThe Safety Excellence Awards recognize NSSGA member company operations that maintain a safe workplace, evidenced by its safety performance over a consecutive period without an MSHA-reportable injury. 

 

 

Griesemer Award

LOUIS GRIESEMER STERLING SAFETY AWARDThe Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Award was created in 1994 to recognize the NSSGA member companies that have the lowest total accident incidence rate for the previous year in their category among NSSGA members. Sterling Awards recognize member companies that achieve the lowest injury incidence rate for the prior calendar year in their size category. The award was renamed in 2019 to honor the commitment to safety shown through the career of Louis Griesemer.  Safety data for the Sterling Awards is provided by MSHA.

 

 

Individual Awards

 

Wendt Award

BARRY K. WENDT MEMORIAL COMMITMENT AWARD

This award is given to an individual in the industry who is deserving of personal recognition for exhibiting the dedication exemplified by Barry Wendt. This award honors the memory of Barry K. Wendt, who passed away in February of 1997. Known for his outgoing, friendly disposition and spirited nature, he was a great friend and champion to the industry. 

 

 

Environmental Leadership Award

ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP AWARD

The award recognizes an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the industry's environmental responsiveness; someone who is involved with NSSGA's environmental programs; and a person who has direct day-to-day involvement with his or her company's environmental affairs.

 

 

Christie Award

JAMES M. CHRISTIE SAFETY & HEALTH PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

This award honors superior contributions of an aggregates industry professional to his or her company, and the industry, toward proactive Safe and healthful operating practices.

 

 

Walsh Award

MARK S. WALSH ANNUAL LEADERSHIP AWARD

This award is given to an aggregates industry member who embodies these qualities through their career and involvement with Young Leaders. It is named for Mark S. Walsh, who was comptroller of National Stone Association producer member Rein, Shultz and Dahl of Illinois.  He was an energetic and enthusiastic supporter of the mission, purpose and activities of Young Leaders and an active member of the Young Leaders Steering Committee. 

 

 

Mellott Award

PAUL MELLOTT, JR. AWARD FOR POLITICAL EXCELLENCE

Recognizes leadership and commitment to strengthening ROCKPAC to further the priorities of the aggregates industry.
