NSSGA Urges Congress to Pass Bipartisan Permitting Reform Legislation
ALEXANDRIA, VA – National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association President and CEO Michele Stanley issued the following statement after the Senate introduced the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (S.5653). NSSGA also sent a letter of support to the Senate Environment and Public Works and the Energy & Natural Resources Committees.
“We thank Environment and Public Works Chairman Shelley Moore Capito (WV) and Ranking Member Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), and Energy and Natural Resources Chairman Mike Lee (UT) and Ranking Member Martin Heinrich (NM), for their work in introducing the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026 (S. 5653). We also thank the Trump administration for its leadership in reaching this bipartisan agreement. A more efficient and predictable permitting process is critical to the aggregates industry and to our nation’s ability to build the infrastructure communities need. NSSGA consistently has asked for reforms to the process to prevent duplicative reviews, have clearer jurisdictional lines and create enforceable timelines to provide certainty to the producers. That certainty is essential if Congress’s infrastructure investments are to deliver results on the ground. America cannot build what it cannot permit, and it cannot permit what it cannot supply.
“We applaud the Senate Committees for working with the Trump administration to produce a package that will lead to more construction across the country. Congress must pass this critical legislation without delay.”
