ALEXANDRIA, VA – National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association President and CEO Michele Stanley issued the following statement after the House passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) that extends government funding and surface transportation authorizations through Dec. 11. The same bill previously passed the Senate on Aug. 8 and now goes to the president for his signature.

“We appreciate the House also passing a short-term funding extension that also continues surface transportation authorizations until Dec. 11. However, our country needs a long-term surface transportation reauthorization bill. The BUILD America 250 Act is a good bill that has been passed by the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee on a broad bipartisan basis. It delivers key investments for our nation’s infrastructure network. It will create new job opportunities for men and women in the aggregates industry. Now, it needs to be considered on the House floor, and the Senate needs to release companion text.

“NSSGA members will be in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 22 to advocate for a robust reauthorization bill to help create safe, durable roads that support the nation’s transportation demands and economic growth. We know first-hand that without a long-term funding solution, infrastructure projects across the U.S. will slow. This would devastate our local economies, with years of setbacks likely.

“We urge both chambers of Congress to recognize the critical importance of passing a robust multi-year surface transportation reauthorization bill this year that allows for future infrastructure planning and stability for our nation’s economy.”
