State of Pyrrhotite Research in the US

In recent years, some concrete cracking at the foundation level of homes and commercial buildings in Connecticut has been associated with Pyrrhotite*. As a result, state legislation has been put forward to protect homeowners and federal funding has been provided for research. Massachusetts is also looking to adopt policies over concerns with Pyrrhotite. In the absence of direct and practical quality control tests to detect and measure Pyrrohtite concentration in aggregates, some of the proposed policies can negatively affect aggregate producers.

Policy Briefing, Featuring The Department of The Interior's Jeff Small

NSSGA hosted a Policy Briefing featuring Jeff Small, senior advisor to the Secretary of the Interior, who provided an update on the Department’s efforts to address COVID-19 issues on federal lands and the Trump Administration’s response to the crisis. Along with that, there were policy updates from our Government and Regulatory Affairs staff.

 

MSHA Silica Rule Overview

This panel will review the new MSHA silica rule published on April 18. The new Part 60 in the rule goes into effect in two years. Presenters John Ulizio and Libby Pritchard will go over the new rule; the requirements the rule imposes on Metal/Non-Metal; and what mine operators can do to prepare. The panel will also talk about how NSSGA is providing compliance assistance to member companies, including future materials, webinars and workshops.

This webinar for NSSGA members addressed the current economic circumstances during the COVID-19 situation; how difficult things are likely to become over the foreseeable future; and the recovery to come thereafter. Featured speaker Anirban Basu, is Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm in Baltimore. Anirban serves as the chief economist to Associated Builders and Contractors and as chief economic adviser to the Construction Financial Management Association.
