Young Leaders

NSSGA’s Young Leaders is a group of aggregates professionals, age 40 and under, who are committed to growing in their professional development and establishing a strong network within the industry

Young Leaders began in 1992 when a group of young aggregates industry employees noticed that there were few opportunities for younger people in the industry to grow their professional networks and learn from each other – most of those opportunities focused around industry board and committee meetings, which were already staffed by those well-established in their careers. The first Young Leaders decided to start a group dedicated to younger industry professionals, with an annual meeting that allowed them to share their experiences in the industry; learn from seasoned executives; improve their leadership skills; and build their networks.

Young Leaders has grown from a group of about 30 dedicated members to more than 300 today. Part of what makes NSSGA’s Young Leaders so unique and valuable to its participants is the diversity of experiences within the group – you’re sure to find a peer who is facing the same challenges you are, or one who can help you solve them.

Who is eligible to participate in Young Leaders?

Any NSSGA member who is 40 and younger and is employed in the aggregates industry is welcome to participate in Young Leaders, including: aggregates producers, equipment manufacturers, professional service providers, students and state association executives. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to the industry, working on establishing your career, or the CEO of a company – all job titles and levels can and do participate in Young Leaders.

Governance

The Young Leaders Steering Committee, which consists of 11 producer members, six M&S members and three officers, governs the activities and events of the Young Leaders program. Members can serve up to two consecutive three-year terms, and there can only be one Steering Committee member from any one dues-paying NSSGA member at a time. A term is from one Young Leaders Annual Meeting to the next, and at the conclusion of each event, all members of Young Leaders are welcome to apply for a Young Leaders Steering Committee vacancy.
