Water Infrastructure Bill Awaits President’s Signature

The Water Infrastructure Improvements Act for the Nation (WIIN) Act, formerly known as the Water Resources Development Act or WRDA, cleared the U.S. Senate by a vote of 78-21 after passing the U.S. House of Representatives last week. The bipartisan bill now heads to President Obama’s desk for signature.

WIIN provides much-needed certainty to our nation’s water infrastructure system by allotting funds for water infrastructure projects across the country, as well as authorizations for over 30 port, levee and dam projects. Coupled with a sustainable funding mechanism for highways, certainty for America’s water infrastructure has been high on NSSGA’s list of priorities for 2016. “As one of the last votes of this Congress, the passage of WIIN is a great win for the aggregates industry,” said Ashley Amidon, NSSGA director of government affairs. “Our industry’s products both create and improve this essential infrastructure system, and we are encouraged by this show of Congressional support.”
