ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7, 2017 – Veteran lobbyist Laura O’Neill-Kaumo will lead advocacy efforts for the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association as the group’s new Senior Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs.
“Improving and modernizing our transportation infrastructure is something that I am deeply passionate about, and I am excited to join NSSGA,” she said. “Quarries produce the very building blocks of not only our country’s roads and bridges, but our homes, offices, schools, hospitals and communities. Rebuilding our infrastructure improves our economy and employs thousands of people in good-paying jobs.”
President and CEO Michael W. Johnson said that O’Neill-Kaumo’s impressive experience will enhance NSSGA’s ability to advance industry-critical policy at a crucial time. She comes to NSSGA from the Owner Operator Independent Driver’s Association (OOIDA), a transportation user group and a valuable ally in the association’s effort to improve the nation’s infrastructure.
“Rocks build America, and President Trump’s call for a $1 trillion investment is a very real opportunity for our industry. Laura joins our team at the perfect time to help advance a significant infrastructure bill and influence an ever-changing regulatory environment,” Johnson said.
A Michigan native, O’Neill-Kaumo earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Miami Law School after earning a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. While in law school, she was a clerk with the Florida Marlins and soon after graduation joined the staff of Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif. She later had the distinction of serving as staff counsel to the Boston Red Sox from 2004-2007.
