Recognizing National Miners Day

NSSGA proudly recognizes the nearly 100,000 men and women in the aggregates industry today; National Miners Day.

“The people in this industry produce the building blocks of America, and this workforce is the aggregates industry’s most precious resource,” said Michael W. Johnson, NSSGA president and CEO. “We are proud to celebrate the end of the safest year in the history of the industry.”

Designated by Congress in 2009 to honor the contributions and sacrifices of miners both past and present, it is a day when NSSGA and MSHA jointly recognize the great achievements of the quarrying industry.

“Many of us have seen the consequences of the continuing sacrifices made by miners and their families. But we also have seen the progress that has been made in miner safety and health, and we share the pride of miners and the mining industry who have worked to make these steady and important improvements,” wrote MSHA Administrator Joe Main on MSHA’s website.
