Blue Dogs Urge Action on Infrastructure – SOTU to be Feb. 5

The President and Congress reached agreement to reopen the Federal Government last week, while FY19 issues are to be addressed over the next three weeks. With that obstacle removed, the State of the Union is now rescheduled to take place in the House Chamber on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Our industry looks to hear the President signal his support for getting an infrastructure package done when he addresses the joint session of Congress. When the President does deliver his plan, he will do so before a new Democratic majority in the House of Representative. Many of those Democrats won election, and thus the majority, by promising their constituents to make infrastructure a priority. The Blue Dog Coalition sent a letter late yesterday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging that infrastructure be one of the top priorities they will undertake. The Blue Dog Coalition is an official caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, who are dedicated to pursuing fiscally-responsible policies that transcend party lines. Infrastructure is becoming an issue that has support on both sides of the aisle, and one where elected representatives could show the ability to govern and work together to create jobs and opportunity; to improve the transport of commerce; and to build a safer America. NSSGA supports the work of the House Blue Dogs, as we are building our advocacy efforts with the new Congress.
