By restructuring its annual awards program, NSSGA seeks to increase the prestige of its top honors. Each year, NSSGA recognizes the top performers in several categories including environment, community relations, and health and safety to promote responsible quarry and mine management.
This year, finalists for the Environmental Award and Community Relations Award will be selected from the top 10% of entries. From those two prestigious groups, a single aggregates operation will be selected to receive the association’s highest “Gold Award” in each category. All finalists will receive recognition as a silver award winner and will be notified prior to NSSGA’s Annual Awards Ceremony as part of the Annual Convention’s opening session on March 16, 2015, in Baltimore, Md. The names of the two gold award winners will be kept secret to be announced before a live audience.
The scope, application process, eligibility, judging criteria and scoring remain the same for the Environmental and Community Relations awards program. All applicants not qualifying for the top 10% in the two categories will receive bronze awards and a listing in NSSGA’s press release and printed program at the awards ceremony. The rules for the Sterling Safety Awards and Safety Excellence remain unchanged.
Starting Sept. 3, members will be able to apply for awards through the online application process located on the Awards Page by clicking the “Enter Here” link under the Community Relations, Environment or Safety and Health categories located at the top of the page.
Most criteria can be satisfied with a written description of activities and supporting documents and photos. One of the benefits of online registration is that you don’t have to submit your entry in one sitting. In fact, you can upload information as many times as you wish before your final submission.
Important dates to note: NSSGA begins accepting applications on Wednesday, Sept. 3, until Wednesday, Oct. 1. Late submissions will be accepted until Oct. 31 for additional fees.
