NSSGA created the Jennifer Curtis Byler Scholarship Fund for the Study of Public Affairs to memorialize the life and accomplishments of a sand and gravel producer’s family member who had an intense interest in the political process. Income from the fund is used to provide an annual $5,000 scholarship to be awarded to the child of an aggregates industry employee who wishes to pursue collegiate studies in public affairs. Jennifer, a mother of four children, was a National Republican Committeewoman for Virginia, an appointed member of the Virginia Board of Education, and a consultant and fundraiser to both candidate and issue campaigns.
Scholarship Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors or students already majoring in government or public affairs in college who are sons or daughters of an aggregates company employee may apply for the scholarship.
Judging Committee: Scholarship applications will be reviewed and judged by a panel including the current NSSGA chairman of the Government Affairs Committee, a representative of the industry trade press and a senior NSSGA staff member.
Application Deadline and Award Presentation: The deadline for applications is Sept. 30, 2014. The winning applicant will be named by Oct. 31, 2014.
