Convention 2010

NOTICE!

The early bird registration deadline has been extended until Friday, February 5, 2010.

The NSSGA Annual Convention is an opportunity to renew old friendships, make new ones, and share ideas. This is the one event that enables each of us to capitalize on the great strengths and expertise of our peers. That collective knowledge and experience will ensure that we’re ready to take advantage of a recovering economy and the growth that is sure to follow.

Highlights of this year’s convention are the Economics & Financial Roundtable, the Lafarge Gypsum plant tour, and numerous activities and tours for spouses.

There's an added bonus. The AGG1 Aggregates Forum & Expo and the World of Asphalt will also be in town, and when you register for the convention, you will receive a free pass to both!

Joy WilsonDear NSSGA member,

People in the aggregates business hear many quips about life in the industry. Often, we hear about Sisyphus, the mortal cursed by Zeus to continually push a rock up a steep hill, only to have it roll back down each night. Our challenges in Washington, D.C., on transportation funding and regulatory oversight often seem to take on a "Sisyphean" feel to them.

For the last two years, we've been forced to think more like the biblical character Job, exhibiting great patience in the face of enormous adversity. As bad as we thought it might be, it seems to be even worse. The economy, the heavy hand of politicians in Washington, the struggles on the state level to stay afloat and the overall malaise of the country have conspired to challenge our collective commitment.

But we will not surrender. We will not be beaten.

Like Job, we know that we must remain true to our convictions. Transportation funding is good for America, overwhelming regulation is not good for America, and the economy will recover because the country continues to grow. Now more than ever we need to remember our mission.

Your national association represents your values to those in Washington who are working to limit your ability to perform. This annual convention is the coming together of the industry to remind itself that we're unified and that we're fighting together. Your participation at this annual convention says that you will not surrender to the threats, and we will carry that message to Capitol Hill as soldiers in the battle to secure the future of this industry.

The stakes are large. A prolonged slump could endanger the industry's ability to serve its communities, or even put some companies out of business. Only with a unified front will we be able to push back against a tide of the administration's hubris and congressional misinformation that we, like many other industries, feel today.

I look forward to seeing you in Cincinnati on February 14, 2010. And thank you for helping us to show the powers in Washington that we are united.

Sincerely,

Joy
