Join NSSGA’s A2 “Growing Forward” grassroots program recognized by Congress as a premiere transportation construction industry-leading grassroots advocacy organization.
We want to make grassroots activism simpler, easier and more effective for you!
Our goal is to educate and influence policymakers on issues of importance to the aggregates industry through both broad-based and micro-targeted campaigns.
Grassroots Company Captains
In order to accomplish this, we want to have at least one individual from every NSSGA member company to serve as the point of contact between NSSGA and the member company on grassroots advocacy matters. This person will be designated a “Grassroots Company Captain” and ensure that NSSGA calls to action and grassroots campaigns are pushed throughout their companies, as well as provide feedback to NSSGA on the responses to their contacts.
Whether you choose to take on this responsibility yourself or delegate it to another leader within your company, it is crucial that we have this network in place as momentum picks up this year on a highway reauthorization bill.
It is vital in Washington’s fast-paced political atmosphere that we have a strong Key Contacts program. The ability to activate NSSGA members on a moment’s notice who can contact and influence strategically important members of the House and Senate is crucial.
We continue to identify NSSGA members willing to serve as key contacts for every member of the House and Senate leadership; the entire Senate EPW Committee and House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee; the Senate Finance and House Ways & Means Committee leaders and other congressional committee leaders.
All it takes is the willingness to renew existing or establish new relationships with those serving in Congress. Ultimately, we must grow to have at least one person responsible for each of the 535 members of Congress!
If there are any House members or senators for whom you would be willing to serve as a Key Contact, please let us know.
Recognizing Outstanding Achievements
NSSGA’s grassroots recognition program was designed to build member participation in the industry’s grassroots advocacy efforts. This has resulted in an unprecedented number of congressional contacts and grassroots activity being reported, which in turn helps NSSGA professional staff in their lobbying efforts on behalf of the industry. Since 2012, we have presented awards for:
- Grasstops CEO of the Year
- Grassroots Coordinator of the Year
- Grassroots Advocate of the Year
You could be recognized as one of the outstanding individuals in the aggregates industry for your grasstops and grassroots efforts. Check out our advocacy activity chart for ideas on how you can participate at the grassroots level and points awarded for each activity.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to serve as a Grassroots Company Captain and/or a Key Contact, please contact NSSGA Government Affairs Division at (703) 525-8788.
With your help, we can continue to keep NSSGA’s grassroots program among the very best of the best by growing the number of aggregates activists, heightening the enthusiasm and involvement of NSSGA members in the political process, and enhancing the ability to educate and influence policymakers through rapid communications. Together, we can achieve great things for our industry!
